Cornwall - Residential Course I and II
August 31 - September 16
Baladi
Baladi ("of the country") is the warm
rich heart of Raqs Sharqi. The fast exciting changes which the peasant
migrant workers who sought work in the Egyptian cities experienced,
as well as the nostalgia of the village life they had left behind, is
expressed in the music and dance which we call Baladi. These intense
mood changes will be the focus of these courses.
Against a Cornish background of turquoise seas and dramatic landscapes,
the two summer courses are an opportunity to immerse ourselves in this
beautiful art form.
Accomodation on both courses is in twin rooms. Each course is for a
small group of 10 dancers.
Delicious home cooked vegetarian food (organic where possible) - lovingly
prepared by our own chef.

Dance with Liza Wedgwood and Erna Fröhlich
Residential Course in Altenburg, near Munich, Germany
Classical & Classical Veil
16th - 22nd July 2007
Switching from the ethereal to the raw rhythmic
and from deeply emotional to the light-hearted, the classical form (sharqi)
of Raqs Sharqi offers a glorious spectrum of possibilities for movement
and expression. It is a rich tapestry which satisfies both dancers and
audience alike.
The art of dancing with a veil too, arabesques of fabric floating and
enveloping, is an added delight on which we will focus during this beautiful
week (in the romantic castle of Schloss Altenburg).
The course is suitable for every level. Beginners also will have a wonderful
opportunity to experience and enjoy a dance which
in its simplicity touches people on all levels.
The castle of Schloss Altenburg is situated in a beautiful landscape
near Munich. The course, now in its 10th year, offers the chance to
immerse oneself in the dance as well as to relax and regenerate in peaceful
and lovely surroundings.
Accommodation is in twin rooms. The castle is not a hotel - it is a
meeting ground for selfncounter, quiet and meditation. Accordingly,
everybody contributes an hour of help daily in the house, kitchen or
park. There is a charge for bed linnen and towels if you cannot bring
your own. Please bring house shoes.
Cost for course, accommodation and full board is € 670,-.
The number of participants is limited to 20. The course fee should be
paid with the written registration. Please register by 20th June 2007
at the latest.
