Liza Wedgwood - Ghawazee, back to start

Liza Wedgwood

Liza is a full time Raqs Sharqi dancer who studied for many years with the Egyptian, Suraya Hilal, and toured with her company in 'Celebration of the Nile'.

Since then there have been solo productions ('The Egyptian Dance You Never Knew' and 'Songs of Enchantment') and collaborations with other dance and art forms (Filigree - with Kathak and Flamenco, and Miniatures with poetry). A current programme 'Awel Hamsa' together with the German dancer, Erna Fröhlich explores contemporary idiom in the classical (sharqi) form.

Using her long Raqs Sharqi teaching experience and her own continuing development Liza is dedicated to helping students find the essential simplicity, earthiness and natural grace which characterise this dance. Liza teaches in London and gives performances, ongoing workshops and courses throughout Europe and the UK.

She is a member of The Raqs Sharqi Society.
